Bike-Friendly Cafe in Zurich, Switzerland

As part of the drive to become a bicycle-friendly city, Zurich's public works department and Serranetga have come up with another innovative campaign. They have jointly launched the first bicycle-friendly cafe.

Riding a bicycle is all pros and no cons. It makes you slimmer and healthier, it allows you to enjoy the fresh air, traffic jams are no longer a problem, and of course you don’t waste money on gas.

At the launch cyclists in Zurich could peddle up to the town hall cafe on Limmatquai and have a coffee without getting off their bike. The "cycle drive-in" was the brainchild of Serranetga. It is constructed from FSC-certified timber from the Rohrer carpenter's workshop in Flüeli-Ranft. The purpose of the unusual piece of furniture is explained by a notice by the bicycle-friendly cafe. Cup-shaped flyers are hung on bicycles encouraging people to pay a visit.
