Mars One Plans to Establish a Human Settlement on Mars

There has always been speculation on whether or not Mars will ever be a habitable planet for humankind. With NASA's discoveries, it may actually be possible to sustain life on Mars. After decades of studying the Red Planet, one organization plans to take it a step further.

Mars One is a non-profit foundation in the Netherlands that plans to build a permanent human settlement on Mars. The Mars One project was founded in 2011 by Bas Lansdorp and Arno Wielders. As of 2015, the search for volunteers for the trip has been narrowed down to 100 candidates. In 2024, the Mars One project will be ready for the first four finalists to colonize Mars permanently.
